Designer Dennis Tefft, AKBD
23 years with Downeast Kitchens

"What is the goal for your kitchen? Pure function, a social space, an architecturally or aesthetically pleasing space? Every project is an opportunity to create something new and exciting. I'm involved in the process throughout, from the time you walk into our showroom until I walk out of your finished kitchen, bath or office. The challenge is in the details-architectural elements, the style, the colors. I will help with lighting, wall colors, plumbing decisions; whatever you need to fulfill your concept of that space. Our rapport is important. The more we communicate, the better the end result."

Dennis graduated from the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in Creative Writing & Poetry. He began working in the lumber industry in a saw mill/planing mill, and was a planing mill foreman for 11 years. He milled timbers and planking for construction of wooden fishing trawlers built on Gaspe Peninsula, Canada, milled and cut boat parts for skiffs, dories, wooden lobster and sport fishing boats built at Maine boatyards, and milled timber frames for homes in the Mid coast area.

Dennis joined Downeast Building Supply in 1984, where he designed and sold kitchens part time for 11 years. He has been a full-time Downeast Kitchens designer/sales person for 12 years. In June 2006, Dennis earned his AKBD certification from the NKBA. (AKBD® Associate Kitchen & Bath Designer is a national certification administered by the NKBA that ensures a high degree of knowledge and professionalism. Requirements include 2 years experience and a series of examinations.)
